Things in Space That Kill Us
Posted on January 6th, 2009 No commentsNeil deGrasse Tyson, an astrophysicist, describes with humor what it would be like to die by being sucked into a black hole, and also describes the Apophis asteroid that might hit earth in our lifetime.
The 99942 Apophis asteroid might impact Earth on April 13, 2036, in which case it would likely wipe out the West coast of the U.S. with several tsunamis. According to Wikipedia the chance is only 1 in 45,000. Of course, if an asteroid doesn’t kill us, there’s always Y2K38.

National Priorities
Posted on September 11th, 2008 1 commentUsing the figures from Death and Taxes I calculated that over the last month I personally contributed over $100 to the Global War on Terror. Over the same period about $36 went to the Department of Education.
The federal budget for 2009 is $1182 billion. $189 billion (16%) of that goes to the GWOT. $59 billion (5%) goes to Education. How much did you pay for each this month?
